Mica's Story

Mica is a qualified teacher and has worked in senior leadership, including Head of Autism Research and Development and Leader of Specialist Provision. Mica is a Principal Team Trainer and has served as the Chair of Governors at a SEND school. She has contributed to a number of articles on Autism, including a TES article titled ‘Autism: Why are we still not spotting the girls?’

Mica has a keen interest in how we can enhance teaching and learning environments and approaches to better support children and young people in education. In 2022, Mica won the Festival of Learning Patron's Award for her commitment to lifelong learning and was able to share her plans for the Lilya Lighthouse Education Trust with HRH Princess Anne in April 2023.

Lilya showed a great interest in Mica's teaching career and would often ask her questions about working in a school. One Christmas, Mica gifted Lilya a National Curriculum and Lilya set about writing Individual Education Plans for her Sylvanian Families. Lilya felt particularly inspired about Mica's stories of working in specialist education and believed that, together, they could change the world.

Mica intends to use her personal understanding of Autism and ADHD, as well as her lived experience as Lilya’s sister, to make positive systemic changes in special and mainstream settings, and has delivered training at local, regional, national, and international events.
